About the event
This lecture will examine what is called Hinduization or Indianization of the Southeast Asian peninsula at the beginning of the Common Era. This would seem very distant if this Indianization were not at the heart of various controversies. This lecture will consider the outcomes of Indianization in mainland Southeast Asia. It will analyze various aspects such as Dharma, local Cham and Khmer innovations, Southeast Asians scripts and the Khmer mountain temples.
OUR SPEAKER: Corsican born Jean-Michel Filippi is Professor of Khmer Linguistics at the Royal University of Phnom Penh and is a leading scholar of Cambodian languages. He completed his Phd at the Sorbonne in Paris. His decade long fascination with Cambodia reaches into the country’s extraordinary history, art and architecture. He is the author of the book Strolling around Phnom Penh, and is a passionate speaker.
