This conference will deal with the ancient history of Cambodia (5th – 15th century) based on Khmer art and particularly on statuary. More than a simple description of Khmer art and its evolution, our aim will be to show that these artistic masterpieces can contribute to a new reading of the ancient

This lecture will examine what is called Hinduization or Indianization of the Southeast Asian peninsula at the beginning of the Common Era. This would seem very distant if this Indianization were not at the heart of various controversies.
